The Bavaria SL-series Portable Sawmill

Technical Details

  • Variable blade tensioning
The cast iron bandwheels (shielded by solid guards) move far outward when long blade is used, making room for large diameter logs. Different lengths of sawblades may be used by choice: long ones for large-diameter logs, short saw blades for logs up to 39" (1m) in diameter. The closer the bandwheel is to the log, the higher the cutting speed.
  • Hydraulic blade tensioning.
The hydraulic mid-sectioned, telescopic tension technology guarantees a 20" (50 cm) height between the saw blade and the upper guard for a tall stack of sawn material. (20" (50 cm) on model SL 130 and up to 16" (40 cm) on model SL110).
  • Pre-cutter
Solid brass plate guide for the sawblade with hydraulic side adjustment. The precutter (debarker) will always ride along with the sawblade and can be hydraulically activated when wanted.
  • Blade lubrication
Exact, measurable blade lubrication with a cleverly designed cleaning system. Lubrication oil is stored in a 30 litre tank with sight glass.
  • Blade positioning
Hydraulic height adjustment cylinder for fast, exact, micro-step positioning. Positioned in a protected area to the right column of the sawhead sled, it is more reliable than the two speed electric motors usually used in this kind of machine. Blade height is read on an easy-to-read gauge mounted under a magnifying lens.
  • Optional automation
Optional computerized operation (with joystick plus SP controller). Just about all the sawmill functions can be controlled with a joystick using only one hand. But for an almost fully automatic sawmill, you can order an optional PLC computerized controller. Successfully utilized in the production of wood veeneer.
  • Tough frame
Unique base frame concept with reinforced upper and lower sections. The sawhead rides on the reinforced lower frame made out of two heavy-gauge steel I beams. This design affords additional space for sawing the lower log section. The frame is altogether stiffer, much more stable than comparable saws.
  • Bed extension
Practical: If you extend the frame, you don't have to change the cable, you just use the extra length that is already mounted. A fast tensioning system for both sides. A ratchet governs the tension in the sawhead cable, holding 26 ft (8 m).
