Hand Forged

Hand forged vs machine made. There is no comparison. Hand forged tools are the choice of professional timber framers and log builders.

Top Quality

Forged from modern carbon steel, their shape and socketed handle give you a satisfying handling like no other tool. Hardened and tempered to a Rockwell hardness of about 60, the edge will stay sharper, longer than a machined tool of the same hardness, by a factor of 5:1.

Tip guards and holsters

Protect your investment with a high-quality, handcrafted leather guard made of saddle-grade leather which is stitched and riveted. Available for framing and bench chisels, slicks and draw knives. Tip guards for slicks and chisels come with ABS plastic backing inserts.

Handles and ferrules

What would a good chisel be without a matching handle? Our handles are turned from seasoned, dry hard wood: hickory, ash, oak, and custom or exotic made to order: cherry, purple heart etc. They offer a larger, palm of your hand sized grip and are treated with all "natural ingredient" LAND ARK wood finish. The ferrule is slightly tapered or shaped to fit snugly just below the neck to hold the wood together under the blows of a mallet.

We offer different styles of handles. Choose from a typical American handle, either short or long, or a Japanese-inspired one with an external ferrule on a slight taper.

Choice of handles

We offer you a choice of handles. Attention is paid to ferrules. The ferrules, left to right, show one in stainless steel, one heat-treated and quenched in linseed oil to give a rust-resistant black patina, and an ordinary ferrule that has rusted.
