The Gutter
Adz is patterned after time-tested tools and is
hand forged to the correct curve and sweep. The hand forging
and modern steel lends it its remarkable toughness. The
tool is shipped with a hard wood handle ground to fit.
This is a beautiful adz to use. Gutter adz has a blade
length of 7", overall length of 9" with approximately
#6 sweep.
The Ship
Carpenter's Adz is specifically designed for hewing
timbers. When used in conjunction with our scarf slick
your timbers will have a terrific hand hewn look. Hand-forged
toughness makes this an incredible adz to use. Comes with
a custom fit hickory handle. 4½" cutting edge.
Our Djaerf
axes and adzes come from S. Djaerv Hantwerk in Sweden.
They make only about 4000 hand forged tools yearly. Every
tool has a unique impression, the surface is black and dented
from the hammer blows. Hardening and tempering leave markings
of oxidation layers. Finally the tool is tempered and submerged
in warm linseed oil. Only the blade’s edge is glistening.
